Golf events in 2026 and 2027

Men's and women's majors, 2027

Eight of the nine men's and women's majors already have a 2027 date and venue nailed on; only the Chevron Championship is still waiting on the LPGA. None of them comes anywhere near the North West, so if you want a major on home turf, this isn't the window for it.

The R&A has already looked past 2027, though, and this is the one to put in your diary. The Open returns to Royal Lytham & St Annes (our Fylde coast guide covers the club) from 3 to 6 August 2028, later than the usual July slot to keep clear of the Los Angeles Olympics that summer. The AIG Women's Open moves to Sunningdale the same year, from 14 to 20 August.

The Ryder Cup

Europe's turn to host comes at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland: build-up runs from Monday 13 to Thursday 16 September 2027, then three days of competition, Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September. Tickets and hospitality go through rydercup.com. The Solheim Cup, golf's other big team event, was already played before this page's window opens: 11 to 13 September 2026, at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. The next one isn't until 2028.

DP World Tour events in the UK

Four more DP World Tour events land inside the UK before the end of 2027, on top of The Open itself.

The BMW PGA Championship usually keeps its September slot, but in 2027 it shifts a week later to sit right after the Ryder Cup. None of these five is a realistic day trip from the North West, though the Alfred Dunhill Links legs at St Andrews come closest.

Ladies European Tour events in the UK

The AIG Women's Open counts on the Ladies European Tour schedule too, on top of being an R&A major (see above). Two more LET events usually make the UK each year: the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open (Dundonald Links, 23 to 26 July in 2026) and the PIF London Championship (Centurion Club, Hertfordshire, 6 to 9 August in 2026). Both were already played by the time this page's window opens on 23 September 2026, and neither tour had published 2027 dates or venues as of the check date. Major amateur championships at North West venues

None of The R&A's 2027 amateur championships or international matches touch down at a North West club. The 132nd Amateur Championship goes to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, the Women's Amateur to Royal Cinque Ports, the Boys' Amateur to Prince's, the Girls' Amateur to Burnham & Berrow, and the Senior Amateur championships to Blairgowrie. England Golf's Brabazon Trophy (the English Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship) hadn't named its 2027 host club as of the check date; only the Northern qualifying venue, Cleveland Golf Club in North Yorkshire, was confirmed. Check The R&A's championships hub and englandgolf.org directly, since a North West venue could still be added to the list.

County championships: Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside

There's no separate Merseyside golf union, and that catches a lot of golfers out.

Clubs in Southport and Liverpool, Formby, Hillside, Royal Birkdale and West Lancashire among them, affiliate to Lancashire Golf. Clubs on the Wirral, including Royal Liverpool at Hoylake, affiliate to Cheshire Golf instead. Both bodies folded their old men's and women's county associations into one: Lancashire Golf Ltd on 5 March 2024, Cheshire Golf Ltd on 23 September 2024, so each now runs a single set of county championships rather than separate events for men and women.

Neither had posted 2027 county championship dates as of the check date. Lancashire Golf's competition list sits at lancashiregolf.org; Cheshire Golf, which runs 13 county championships a year, keeps its list at cheshiregolf.org/competitions.

Club open competitions

Your own club's open competitions won't be on this page, and that's deliberate. They're listed on the club's own website, usually under a fixtures or "opens" tab, or bookable straight through BRS or IntelligentGolf. Southport & Ainsdale is a good example: it keeps its 2026 opens listed on its own site, updated through the season. Dates and entry conditions change year to year, so the club's own page is the only place they'll stay accurate.
